Curse of the Law
When YHWH gave the Torah (the Law) to Israel He said,
Deuteronomy 11:26 "Behold, I set before you this day a blessing and a curse; A blessing, if ye obey the commandments of the YHWH your Eloah, which I command you this day: And a curse, if ye will not obey the commandments of the YHWH your Eloah,..."
Messiah freed us from the “curse” portion of the Torah (all the negative things he outlined in Deuteronomy 28 that happened if we disobeyed). This is rather plain,
Galatians 3:13 "The Anointed-One hath redeemed us from the curse of the law, being made a curse for us:...That the blessing of Abraham might come on the Gentiles through Yahushua The Anointed-One; that we might receive the promise of the Spirit through faith."
We are freed from the curse of the law, but still required to keep Torah without condemnation (Rom 8:1).
Romans 3:31 “Do we then make void the law through faith? YHWH forbid: yea, we establish (reaffirm) the law.”
Romans 7:12 “Wherefore the law is holy, and the commandment holy, and just, and good.”
1 John 2:3-5 “ And hereby we do know that we know him, if we keep his commandments. He that saith, I know him, and keepeth not his commandments, is a liar, and the truth is not in him. But whoso keepeth his word, in him verily is the love of YHWH perfected: hereby know we that we are in him.”
Revelation 22:14 "Blessed are they that do his commandments, that they may have right to the tree of life, and may enter in through the gates into the city."
John did not have a New Testament NIV to refer to only the 2,000 year old scriptures on which he was raised. Any mention in the NT about "obedience to the faith" or "keeping the commandments" is referring to the faith/commandments outlined in the Torah. YHWH does not change. The behaviors outlined in Torah are what He expects. What could be clearer?
Romans 6:14-15 “For sin shall not have dominion over you: for ye are not under the law, but under grace. What then? shall we sin, because we are not under the law, but under grace? YHWH forbid.”
We are “under grace” in that we are under YHWH’s mercy and the penalty of the law is not on us. We are not under a new spiritual law or concept. Should we mock YHWH and continue to break His law (sin) anyway? No.
Galatians 6:7-8 Be not deceived; YHWH is not mocked: for whatsoever a man soweth, that shall he also reap. For he that soweth to his flesh shall of the flesh reap corruption; but he that soweth to the Spirit shall of the Spirit reap life everlasting.
Galatians 6:7-8 is just a restatement of Revelation 22:14 above. If we were under some new “grace system” Galatians 6:7 would not be true and would contradict the scriptures listed below. The OT and the NT complement each other, in that, what is prophesied in the first is fulfilled in the second and one can not accurately interpret the second without a intimate knowledge of the first. The only way the Scriptures remain a coherent work is to realize that YHWH did not change His mind about His commandments, which existed before the foundation of the world (John 1:1, Proverbs 8:22-36).
Ecclesiastes 12:14
14 For God shall bring every work into judgment, with every secret thing, whether it be good, or whether it be evil.
Proverbs 24:12
12 If thou sayest, Behold, we knew it not; doth not he that pondereth the heart consider it? and he that keepeth thy soul, doth not he know it? and shall not he render to every man according to his works?
Jeremiah 25:14
14 For many nations and great kings shall serve themselves of them also: and I will recompense them according to their deeds, and according to the works of their own hands.
Matthew 16:24
24 Then said Jesus unto his disciples, If any man will come after me, let him deny himself, and take up his cross, and follow me.
2 Corinthians 5:10
10 For we must all appear before the judgment seat of Christ; that every one may receive the things done in his body, according to that he hath done, whether it be good or bad.
Revelation 2:23
23 And I will kill her children with death; and all the churches shall know that I am he which searcheth the reins and hearts: and I will give unto every one of you according to your works.
Romans 2:5-6
5 But after thy hardness and impenitent heart treasurest up unto thyself wrath against the day of wrath and revelation of the righteous judgment of God; 6 Who will render to every man according to his deeds:
Luke 12:47
And that servant, which knew his lord's will, and prepared not himself, neither did according to his will, shall be beaten with many stripes.
1 Peter 1:17
And if ye call on the Father, who without respect of persons judgeth according to every man's work, pass the time of your sojourning here in fear:
Revelation 22:12
And, behold, I come quickly; and my reward is with me, to give every man according as his work shall be.
Here is a link that lists the 613 commandments of the law. http://www.jewfaq.org/613.htm 365 commandments are negative (thou shalt not) pointing out what sin is. 248 are positive showing what YHWH expects after coming to faith. They are grouped by how a person relates to: YHWH, Community, etc. Most are not applicable today or are specific to a certain group of people. You will find that the stigmatism associated with it as being a burden is false (take my yoke (Torah) upon you and learn of me (Torah) my yoke is easy and my burden is light). People always say, "What would Jesus do?" go to the link and you will know. There is freedom in knowing exactly what is expected of you and not becoming a law unto yourself.
